A Documentary Film
In 2025 I was a part of a high school soccer team that won the 3A Wyoming State Championship. It was a very big deal as the school had not won a State Championship in any sport in 8 years and a soccer championship in 13. As I looked back on such a fun and successful season I realized something, the season was very poorly documented. Nobody knew how good we were going to be so it was not a thought. So I took it upon myself to fix that for next year.
This is where the idea came about to make a documentary. Ever since then I have been thinking about how it will come together. I put together a 13 week plan for the season to follow along and base my story off of. This was the point where I pitched my idea to the coaching staff. Some were on board and others were unsure on the idea. It took some explaining and persuading but I successfully got them all on board. Now it was time to wait for the season to start.
The season got closer and I made the realization that I could not do this alone. As we began practices, I sent out a message on social media asking for help. I got many messages about how people were so excited to see the film come to reality. Although there was one person that was all in and really wanted this project to come to fruition. Cory Arnold replied to a story with, "I'll help however I can." I took her up on her offer and she started filming.
Throughout the next 12 weeks Cory filmed anywhere from 2-4 days per week. There was so much learning, so much filming and so much time put forth to this film. She was there every home game from the home opener versus Sheridan to Senior night versus Worland.
Going into state was a very big deal not only as a player but as a producer trying to make my first documentary film. There were nerves all around. I gave Cory a shot list and my full faith she would capture anything and everything. All of what she had learned came down to this weekend. The first game was the easiest for the team but the most nerve-wracking for the film crew. We won big 6-0. The next game was filled with the most emotions. We played Lander. The game was neck and neck the whole half. The second half started poorly for the Bison. I got my second yellow and was sent off putting the Bison down a player. Soon after we got scored on and never came back to contest putting the Bison out of the runing for back to back titles. This was definitely sad but will end up being really good for the film. We played for the 3rd/4th game the next day and got 3rd place.
I am now in the process of post production and wrapping up interviews with players and coaches to go along with the story.
This project is in the works and am so excited for it to be built. This project could not be done without so many. Cory Arnold was the main person filming almost every day. Thank you so much for giving up your time and dedication to this project. Thank you so much to all of my sponsors, Buffalo Dental Clinic, State Farm - Alecia Kozisek, Occidental Hotel, and Mountain Meadow Wool, this would not happen without you!!
